Silent Famine
Rice has never been such a universal problem and only experienced by the 3rd world. Surprisingly, at the start of this year's 2nd quarter rice is now being rationed and buyers are limited from buying more than can be rationed. It makes the future rather bleak since among the prime commodities that were unshakable are now priced so high that we stay hungry not being able to reach the cost of food.
Thailand is the leading exporter of rice grain, from $600 per ton last April 2nd they now sell at $1,000 a ton. Amazingly, the price change is so fast that in just 22 days a $400 jack up is announced.
Before the Silent Famine, third world countries were going through a similar phase of The Great Depression. Unfortunate for them, they will have to live through harder, tougher not to mention a longer kind of suffering. With nary a thing to do except offer a collective prayer to the Great Being we believe in and with our faith intact live in the hope that "…this too, shall pass".
